DESCRIPTION

Learn the art of wax carving and sculpting to form your very own unique silver ring (or upgarde to solid gold), in this widely used jewellery making technique.

Carving wax gives you endless options to freely design whatever ring you want, as you are not limited to a silver wire or strip. This technique allows you to create something 3D, abstract, classic, chunky, geometric or organic, so you can let your imagination run wild!

The workshop begins with a short introduction to the lost wax process and its uses. The Ringsmiths team will inform you about basic tips and tricks on how to design a comfortable ring. Showing you various techniques and tools that can be used.

You will then start by designing/sketching out your ring, (samples will be available for inspiration) before beginning to carve your wax.

Once you’re happy with your finished carving we will show you how to prepare it for casting. After the workshop your wax carved ring will be cast, finished and polished in-house by our skilled team of Ringsmiths jewellers using recycled sterling silver. You will be contacted once it’s ready for collection or we can post it out to you.

Your finished silver ring will be ready for collection or posting within 4 - 5 working weeks after the class.

Suitable for complete beginners with no previous jewellery making experience.

Participants must be 18 or over.

  • Optional extras such as engraving, gold plating, gemstone setting and solid gold/platinum casting are offered at an additional cost.

    These can be requested and paid for at the end of the class.

    Gemstones start from £20 and up and include setting costs

    Gold plating ranges from £45-£65

    Engraving starts from £55 for 1-3 letters

    Hallmarking starts from £30

    You can upgrade to have your wax ring cast in solid 9ct/18ct gold or platinum on the day. The jewellers will weigh your wax and quote you the cost based on the live precious metal price.
    Please note each of these services have a lead time of 4 working weeks on top of the casting/finishing time.
