FAQs

Q: HELP! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT workshop IS BEST SUITED FOR ME?

A: Don’t worry, we have a range of workshops to chose from. We’ve made sure each one is accessible and enjoyable - whether you’re a complete beginner or have jewellery making experience and want to learn a new technique. We provide a detailed description of each of our workshops, so recommend doing a little research before you choose which class you would like to book (if not all of them!!!).

Q: DO WE NEED TO BRING ANYTHING for THE workshop?

A: Just yourselves and a willingness to learn and have some fun! We recommend comfortable clothing, glasses (if you need them for close-up work) and a hair tie (if you have long hair).

Q: CAN I ADD ADDITIONAL DETAILS TO THE PIECE OF JEWELLERY I MAKE IN a workshop?

A: Yes! We offer a range of services from engraving, gold plating, stone setting and hallmarking that we can add to your jewellery and which can be paid for in the class.

Q: WILL I LEAVE WITH A FINISHED PIECE OF JEWELLERY AT THE END OF THE workshop?

A: This all depends on the class you decide to do with us. In most of our classes you will leave with your piece of jewellery at the very end. With exception is our Design Your Own Silver Ring workshop where you carve a ring in wax, which we cast and finish for you within 3-4 weeks. Also for any gold plating or additional services that your request there will be an additional lead time. We advise that you read the workshop descriptions as the processes will be explained fully.

Q: CAN I BRING MY FRIENd, Partner, MOTHER, CHILD, OR PET TO WATCH IN ON THE CLASS?

A: Unfortunately we only have enough space for ticket holders only. We like to know that everyone who enters our beautiful and intimate space is there to participate, as it’s all part of the experience!

Q: am i able to MAKE A RING OR BANGLE FOR MY PARTNER WITHOUT KNOWING THEIR SIZE?

A: Try to borrow one of their rings/bangles (if they wear any) so we can measure it in the class! If this isn’t possible we will help guide you to the closest size to fit and if it’s not right you can always drop it back to us for re-sizing.

Q: CAN I MAKE MORE THAN ONE PIECE OF JEWELLERY IN A CLASS?

A: Yes! We advise you to get in touch with us beforehand and give us a heads up on the workshop you are attending. We can then talk you through your options and the additional charges. (Please note that this is subject to your speed and ability within the class time frame.)

Q: I’M UNDER 18 CAN I COME TO A CLASS?

A: Unfortunately not, most of our classes involve using some sort of tools or machinery, plus we serve alcohol on site. Therefore, we have a strict no under 18s policy. (We can host private parties and tailor one specially for under 18s, drop us a message on our contact form or at hello@theringsmiths.com).

Q: WE WOULD LOVE TO MAKE OUR RINGS IN SOLID GOLD OR PLATINUM. WHAT CLASS SHOULD WE DO?

A: Great! We advise you to get in touch with us so we can talk over your requirements. We have a couple of classes where you can come and make a ring in gold or platinum. These classes include - Design Your Own Silver Ring (you can upgrade and cast your ring in gold or platinum), Make & Cast a Signet Ring (again we would need to arrange this in advance, you also have the option to smelt any old jewellery of your own in this casting technique) and finally Make Your Own Wedding Rings. We also offer private parties for a group of up to 8 to come and make rings in 9ct or 18ct gold. We would happily tailor a class for you.

Q: DO I NEED TO BRING IDEAS AND INSPIRATION?

A: No, don’t worry! Depending on the workshop you have booked onto, we will either provide you with a step by step or lots of ideas and inspiration on how to achieve particular designs. You can check our our Instagram @theringsmiths for ideas and to see what past students have made, plus we are constantly updating our stories with everything we get up to!

Q: I’m pregnant can i still take part/attend a workshop?

A: Health and safety wise you’re absolutely fine to take part in our workshops whilst pregnant. The only chemical we use in some of our workshops is a very diluted form of acid, to clean the fire stain (oxides) off of the silver. Tweezers are used to handle the metal in this process so you won’t come into contact with it. We would just point out that there is hammering involved in some of our workshops, so depending on how far along you are you may find this a little tiring. But we will be on hand to help you throughout the whole process!
